Wow, before George Bush you would have to wonder how someone so obviously crazy could be a front runner for the nomination of a major political party in the United States. Now it's just business as usual for a candidate to publicly question the loyalty of his political opponents.

The other Kevin

I reckon they were both the other Kevin depending on which one you were talking about and/or to. For a while the Kevin that still lives in Michigan has had a link on the right side of this blog. Today, I add this nut's blog. Both Kevins were a grade ahead of me at Glen Lake High School in Maple City, MI. They were cool and funny and helped out an especially dorky freshman that didn't know enough to take his hat off inside a classroom. The new blogging Kevin is a pastor out in the Northwest and old blogging Kevin runs a maintenance department in an illegal bomb making facility in Northern Michigan. Who says militias are bad for the state's economy? Not me, I love militias. Secular jihadists, I call 'em.

New Project

When I went up to Michigan in September my Aunt Carol gave me a quart freezer bag full of plastic slide cases. She told me take them and do what I wanted with them. The pictures on the slides were taken in the late 60's and early 70's by my grandfather, Edward Zimmer. He was my father's stepdad and I was named after him. I told my Aunt Carol that I would get the photos scanned and share the images with her and the rest of the family.

When I got back home from Michigan I realized getting all these slides scanned and put on a disc would probably cost three or four hundred dollars (if not more) and I would need a year or so (if not longer) to accomplish this. I decided to buy a scanner. The scanner cost a couple of hundred bucks but I think I came out ahead in the long run. Besides, now I got a scanner.

Over the past few weeks I have been scanning these photographs and posting them on Flickr. If you want a glimpse of life in Northern Michigan in the 60's then take a gander at this collection of photographs.

Candlelit Sorry

Last night when I got home from work around 9:30 the power was out. When I contacted Duke Energy the automated message informed me that the power would be on until around midnight. Luckily, I am a candle kinda person so I spent my first few minutes at home lighting candles.

Even though we missed most of game one of the World Series it really wasn't so bad. After a little while we broke out the Sorry game and Wendell, Mel and I had a rousing game where each of us threatened to win at one point. That bastard, Wendell, won the game even though he was about as far behind as you can get in a game of Sorry at one point. That is the beauty of that game, you really are never out of it until the eventual winner gets all his pieces safely home. Early in the game I had my last piece on square away from home and Wendell had two pieces still sitting Start. And he won. The creep.

How to go effectively organic

This is interesting. I guess if you want to go into organic eating lightly the New York Times gives you five food items that would have the most impact on the food industry. I'm surprised they don't mention eggs because I am already there with the organic eggs. They taste so much better than the regular old eggs I had been buying for years.

Are we ready?

Here's a nice interview with Hillary Clinton in the Guardian newspaper. It's interesting to note that the Guardian has started a U.S. version of their paper. In regards to Hillary's interview, I don't know if America is ready for a candidate for president that addresses executive power and terrorism rationally. I don't think we are there yet. Nice try though, hippy.

Why apologize?

Why does this guy, Representative Stark, feel he has to apologize to George Bush for insinuating that Bush enjoys war? Is there really anyone that doubts that this clown wanted nothing more than to go to war that he gets a thrill from being a War President? Remember when the London subway system was hit by those bombs? That day Bush was in full War President mode and you could see how satisfied he was knowing that on that day all he had to do was look resolute and blather pointlessly about war and strength. He gets off on this shit and it's too bad the one person to say it on the floor of the congress has been brow beaten into taking his words back.

Goodfellas

I watched Goodfellas for about the 10th time last night. Is there a better gangster movie? My favorite gangster movies in no particular order: Godfather, Miller's Crossing, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction and The Sting. I do have one little piece of criticism about Goodfellas. I lose a little bit of interest once the movie movies deep into the 70's. There is just something a little more romantic about the gangster of the 40's and 50's, back when they wielded real power.

After hours librarian

Last night the One Big Loud Guy, Wendell and Brigham and I went to the Fairview Grill. Wendell and Chris were hungry. Right as I walked in I did a lap around the bar just to see who was there and some guy flagged me down. He had something to say, so I leaned close and he said, "Who wrote 'A Tale of Two Cities?'" I said, of course, "Charles Dickens." He turned to his buddy and said, "See?" I said, "You're luck tonight because I am a librarian." He then said, "I thought I knew you from somewhere." I am here to serve my community.

I see our worthless piece of crap president came out yesterday proclaiming that our country doesn't torture. What the liar doesn't mention is that he and his cronies redefine torture anytime what they are doing starts to become unlawful. How sad is it that the sitting President of the United States has defend his standing on torture? I still am shocked that a single person voted for this piece of shit.

It turns out that the realtor that is selling my home out from under me now has a website with information on what they plan on doing to Colonial Park Apartments once it becomes Selwyn Commons.

Honestly, I think they are dreaming if they think they can sell these units starting at $140,000. Sure, they are close to Southpark but they aren't all that big and I don't know where they think they can squeeze washer/dryer units into these things and still have a water heater. I'm fixing to move out soon and I hope whoever is sinking money into this gets burned and the owner of the property is left with a bunch of apartments without tenants. I really like living where I do and having to pick up and move just so some faceless owner and investors, that can't be bothered to communicate to the current tenants, can make a profit is just depressing.

Is it even possibly true that someone actually asked Obama why he wasn't wearing an American flag pin on his lapel? Just when exactly did politics get so fucking retarded? This country doesn't torture

Honestly, what does this motherfucker have to do to get impeached? These assholes could eat a baby's brains on live TV and when accused of baby eating they would say, "No, we didn't eat a baby. We ate the brains of a creature that could possibly be human but we can't say for sure because its secret and that knowledge would endanger every American."

Howdy

I'm amazed I still get hits on this here blog. I ain't been posting much of anything lately.

A few updates. I was in Michigan from September 10th until the 21st. I had a very good time. It was the third time I had been up there since late April. I've burned a lot of vacation time this spring and summer. I am sitting at 33 hours. That's the least amount of vacation time I have had saved up in a very long time. I am usually floating at way over 100 hours.

Rockingham

I see Rockingham was purchased by Andy Hillenburg and he is going to set up a driving school there and attempt to have a race there. It'll be a race by a smaller series but if there is a race there I will go. I wonder if a track that big could host some kind of weekly or monthly racing series? Probably not, it's too big and fast for local drivers to drive on. It would probably cost too much.

Bison Burgers

This last weekend Melanie and I had our first bison burgers. Ground bison meat is sold at Earth Fare(my newest nominee for happiest place on Earth). Mel can't eat beef because of her allergies and this it was the first burger she has had in months. She was in heaven. Personally I thought the bison meat was delicious. It was leaner than beef and had a more robust flavor. Because it was so lean, the half pound burger didn't sit in my gut like a brick. Honestly, the next time I decide to grill out I am going to buy ground bison if I have a hankering for a burger. It's pricier that ground beef at $6.99 a pound but that is still not a bad price. You pay more than seven dollars a for two burgers at dadgum Wendy's.
