The great mind game

The question of whether Terrell Owens will be back this Sunday for the Super Bowl is not nearly as important as the fact that since he practiced today the Patriots are going to have to include him in their game plan. Pretty smart, I think.

George Bush: Violator of the Constitution

Thank goodness, maybe they'll finally shut down that concntration camp. How disgusting is it to have a lawyer that is representing the president of the United States to state publicly that certain people have no rights under our constitution?

Million Dollar Baby

Who else can say it best other than Roger Ebert, "masterpiece, pure and simple, deep and true."

I don't know if a movie has ever made me feel better and feel worse. Like Unforgiven and Mystic River it moves at a lifelike pace. Ah, fuck it. I can't sum this movie up like any ole movie. It's just fucking brilliant. You know the story, a female boxer convinces jaded ole Clint to teach her how to box and then manage her career. Freeman and Clint are, uh, incredible. Swank is, uh, incredible. Like the two previous movies I mentioned it's shot so that many scenes feel like paintings that have motion. There's a shot where Swank and Eastwood are conversing in front of a white brick wall and there is a speed bag between them. The wall is a washed out white and the two actors and the speed bag in sillouetted. I want a poster of that.

You just have to go see this movie on the big screen. You'll kick yourself forever if you wait until the video release. You're going to cry before it's over and feel like shit when you leave but it's worth it because before all that you'll smile, laugh, cheer and probably inwardly pump your fist a couple of times.

Before I went to the theater tonight I thought I wouldn't see a movie better than Sideways. Tonight I saw a movie that eclipses Sideways without a question.

Good to see you guys

Monday night I tuned in to the Tonight Show for the first time in a mighty long time because I heard that Don Rickles and Bob Newhart were going to appear together so they could pay tribute to Carson. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to not only see those two geniuses together but, not only that, I was doubly thrilled that they came out and were funny. Rickles is a great storyteller and he is still the absolute master of the one liner. Newhart may be one of the best storytellers in the world and it's too bad that you can only see them on the tube every year or so. Man, that was a good twenty minutes of television. They told stories about appearing on the Tonight Show and expressed their love of Carson and just totally took the show over while they were out there. I didn't stop smiling the whole time.

It's a crazy mixed up world when Pat Buchanan starts making sense.

Johnny

I was never much of a Johnny Carson viewer. I never watched his interviews. I don't have the patience for talk shows. I rarely even watch Letterman interview his guests. I'm the kind of viewer that enjoys watching Dave screw around for the first half hour and then I move on. I watched Carson every now and then and what I did enjoy was his opening monologue. Since it was the usual late night material often his jokes bombed. I always thought his true talent was improvisation and he could save a bad joke better than anyone I have ever seen. I remember whenever he would tell a stinker his takes after a negative reaction from the audience was some of the best comedy you could see anywhere. Improvisation is the true sign of comedic talent to me and Johnny had it. I've missed since he left and all I can think of now was how much he enjoyed his retirement. Everyone should be able to enjoy a good ten years of peace before they die.

Satan is Lord?

I know they are supposed to be flashing the Texas Longhorn thing but, dang, they're idiots.

You've got to be kidding

"Some, I know, have questioned the global appeal of liberty," he said, "though this time in history, four decades defined by the swiftest advance of freedom ever seen, is an odd time for doubt. We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom."
This is it

Today is the day. That snotty, smirky president will begin withdrawing his political capital today when he takes the ole oath of office. I understand he's going to pledge to unify the country. God bless 'im, I figured he would voice that, the biggest of his lies. Of course his idea of unification is for us to go along with whatever he says or we're causing the riff or supporting terror or particiapting in some sort of anti-American act by not nodding passively. I'm looking forward to seeing some video later today. I can't wait to see how smug he looks up there as the first wartime president to almost blow an election rather than as a president whose legitimacy was doubted by many. This whole Bush presidency is so comicly tragic that I almost anticipate the Southpark Satan to show up today with his boyfriend Saddam.
