Ug Umgowa
I've said before and I'll say it again. Being sick sucks balls. Sometimes you get one of those annoying little colds and you might take a day off from work so you DON'T INFECT YOUR CO-WORKERS (what a novel idea!) but this time I felt myself getting sick so I left work early and prepared myself for a day or two of respite and heavy snot flow. The virus had other plans. That motherfucker laid me out for about three days. You know that sensation of having to cough but not wanting to because when you do it feels like someone is shoving a chainsaw down your throat? Yeah, I had that. Thank god I had about 1/3 of season 2 of Futurama to watch. I was incapable of doing anything other than watching the tube and daytime TV is truly shit when you have basic basic cable.
For the first time I watched a few minutes of the Teletubbies. That is some spooky-ass shit. I saw that during my especially dazed period so I'm not sure if what I saw was real. I even watched a little of Jerry Springer for the first time in years. There's nothing new I can say about that show except its standard of shittiness has not changed in the couple of years since the last time I saw it.
But I feel better now. Now I'm just stuffed up and will cough for a week. My four days of misery did work in the favor of my kitties. Every time I went under I woke up covered in cats.
New Music
Recently I realized that I haven't really been doing any music exploration. Two bands I've come across in the last week that have me intrigued: The Fiery Furnaces and TV on the Radio. I've downloaded a few tracks and a couple of purchases may be in order.

Good deed of the day
Yesterday while driving I saw on my right a dog trotting down the sidewalk dragging his leash behind him. Through a small grove a trees I saw a ten-year-old kid running and looking around and it was obvious he was panicking and looking for something. I came to a stop at light I was approaching, honked twice quickly in order to get the boys attention. When he looked my way I motioned behind me with my right hand toward the dog. He looked to his left, saw the dog, grabbed the leash and then waved at me in thanks. I felt good about that all day. In fact, I still feel good about that.
Music
This was a good week for music. On Wednsday I saw Jason Isbell of the Drive By Truckers do a solo acoustic show at the Evening Muse. A picture follows.
On Friday at the Evening Muse I saw Deanna Lynn at 9 pm. A picture follows.
At 10 pm, same location, David Childers took the stage. A picture follows.
After Childers I went to the Comet Grill and saw Lenny Federal. Thatsa good night of music.

He's back! You probably didn't even know he was gone
Mojo Nixon has found a spot on the Sirius satellite radio thing. I'd sure like to be able to hear that. Makes me wish I was a trucker so I could rationalize subscribing to satellite radio. Maybe the world will finally appreciate Mojo.

The media licking its own ass
Let's see here...four days after New Year's eve there are now news stories about the lead singer of Motley Crue dropping the F-bomb on live television. So far the FCC has received no complaints! My, my. Hopefully a pointless news story will get the slope-headed monkey brains on the phone to the FCC. It only takes about three complaints to get the ball rolling for an FCC indencency investigation. Of course, a news network can lie all day every day but as long as they not saying 'fuck' and showing tits it's OK. My head may explode.

Movie time
Got back a little while ago after seeing the movie "The Aviator." It's a little uneven but I did really enjoyed the early portion of the movie that covered Howard Hughes' playboy days in Hollywood. Heck, he hooked up with Kate Hepburn and Ava Gardner, for god's sake. There were a couple of nice surprises since I didn't read about the movie too much before I saw it.
1) Alan Alda had a nice meaty role as a senator who was working against the interests of Hughes' company TWA. I was thrilled to see Alda get some major screen time again. It was especially fun since he played a "bad guy" and it was obvious he was having fun in the role.
2) Gwen Stefani played Jean Harlow. Very yummy.
3) Cate Blanchett was really good as Kate Hepburn. She has the figure and the attitude for it. She looked great dressed in Hepburn's trademark slacks.

Rock and Roll
Last week the Double Door Inn here in town had an anniversary show. It's become a traditon now that around the holiday season the Double Door's anniversary show features the Federal Bureau of Rock and Roll. Since I've been going at this blog thing for a couple of years now I am sure I've mentioned that before. Since I haven't posted for a couple of days I am going to post a couple of shots of my buddy, Bill Walpole who plays slide guitar for this killer local band who you all should see at least once in your life.
