Make Your Brain Better While Brushing Your Teeth
According to the always helpful Lifehacker people if you switch your hands while brushing your teeth you could make your brain more agile and brush parts of your mouth you may miss while sticking to one hand. I can attest to this being a challenge because a couple of weeks ago I switched hands while using a computer mouse. I was getting some pain in my right elbow due to computer use so I now use my left hand. Adapting to using my left hand with the mouse was challenging. It felt like I was learning to think again. I am now almost as adept with my right hand as with my right. Those of you that know I am left handed may find it difficult to imagine a left hander having trouble using a mouse with his left but I had been using my right hand as my mouser since I first started using a computer back in the early to mid 90s. I think I'll try to brush my teeth with my right hand tonight. I did try using my right hand once and ended up stabbing myself in the gums with the uncontrolled toothbrush. That hurts like hell so be careful if you try it.

Albert Pujols
Recently, St. Louis Cardinal first baseman, Albert Pujols was was the subject of a Sports Illustrated cover article. I tell you what, I really do want to believe that Albert Pujols has never taken steroids. He's just so good and seems so sincere that I want to believe. Like the article says, baseball lives on heroes and if I was twelve years old he would be my hero.

Raising Money
Yesterday there was a big fundraiser at the Wendover Habitat for Humanity Restore. The owner of my local beer store was on the roof collecting money. Melanie and I went by, dropped some moola in his bucket and browsed inside the store for a while. Below is Mike on the roof. Of the two guys in the middle he's on the right wearing the yellow shirt and hamming it up.

Colbert Kills Me
I just watched this video from the Colbert Report. You have to wait until about the middle of the video for the part that just killed me. It's easy to say that Glen Beck is dangerous but Colbert and Stewart have the ability to show you why people like him and Hannity are a threat to this country's stability.

Fox "News" Does a Hit Piece on the Library
Yeah, like I needed another reason to dislike the Fox Network and their horrid news division. Last night our local Fox affiliate ran this story. Be sure to watch the video, the way in which they edit Linda Raymond's comments is shameful. According to an official library communication here is all they left out of the story: "Library Collection Management Manager Linda Raymond did an extensive interview with FOX, but only a few seconds of that interview were aired. In the full interview, Linda explained the many reasons that we use specific vendors, including increased efficiency (saving staff time/cost), customer service, billing procedures, and the ability to buy large quantities of items at a discount before the release date so that patrons can have high-demand items as early as possible." I guess the reason they they edited her comments that way is that if they allowed her to speak for more than 5 seconds they would have no story.
I mean, c'mon Fox News. We all know you're a bunch of hacks but, geez, this story is everything that's bad about television news: it leaves out facts, it goes for emotion instead of accuracy and it is purposefully edited to cause a reaction in scary economic times. Maybe you can't get called up to the network unless you publicly spit on a valuable public institution or two.
I hope, if you live in Mecklenburg County and you are angry as I am after you see this sorry piece of journalism, that you take a few minutes to write a letter to the station. The library deserves an apology.

Gmail at Five Years
I hope everyone on the face of the earth has a Google email account by now. If you are still using Yahoo email just because you have been for ten years go ahead and make that switch. The sooner you do it the easier it will be to make the transition. Gmail is worth it just for their superior spam filtering software. I found an interview with Gmail's Senior Product Manager (what does that mean?) that's informative. Another reason to try Gmail is that it's always evolving. There's always something new to play with on it but it never changes so much to where you feel like you have to re-learn how to do the basic stuff. Gmail: It's Fun!
